yes if you are using Alice the following 2 tags should work
<SYS_SET_ROOT_PWD>yes</SYS_SET_ROOT_PWD>
<SYS_ROOT_START_PWD>qrbD/zBi5J7vw</SYS_ROOT_START_PWD>
if you edit the info-file directly use the two tags above
put them into class.yast.tcf to the tag

The password is directly set in /etc/shadow while installing
the alice rpm, when no PW is in there (default on a plain installation). So
if the password is set you won't be promted by yast to enter one.
