Hi:
I almost sure that this is not the right list to ask this, but there wasn't a list named help-for-newbies or something like that, so hopefully somebody here can help me :)
I want to install SuSE in my computer, but I don't know how, and I don't know what should I have to download and I don't know if I can intall it in my computer, and I don't know from where I have to download it but what I know is that I know nothing, so can anyone can answer me this questions:
a) I own a Vaio computer from Sony, the model is PCV-RX54, and I use Windows XP as my OS, so my question is: Can I install SuSE 8.1 in this computer without desistalling Windows? I read that this is posible but it says that if I have a NFTS partition or something like that I will have to erase all my data in my computer and restart it, now, I think that my partition is of the FAT32 category, but I don't know for sure, so, how can I know?
b) How do I intall it? I don't want to buy it, not because I don't want to buy it (that was funy) but because I live in Mexico and it is always a problem to buy software in another country, so I prefer to download it, but I don't know how, or what to download. Can I use any ftp program to do it, and once I'm in the ftp site, what do I donwload? I know that I want the version 8.1 but I been in the ftp site (using cuteftp) and there are a lot of directories and I need to know wich ARCHITECTURE i can install in my computer, so which architecture I download?
c) How do I start the instalation? I read that I can't download it to my computer and then make some CDs and install suse from my CD, that I have to install it from the FTP site,so, how does this works and how do I install it?
d)Is it to difficult to install SuSE. I'm not a newbie in windows, I know a lot and I can fix any problem I find in windows, but this will be the first time in my life that I'm going to install another OS in a computer that already has one, so, is it to difficult? Am I going to find a lot of problems or does everything will be very easy?
