    I couldn't help but notice that some of you have been talking about
    benchmarking and Alpha as of late.
                            Well I had Lawrence Berkeley National Lab
                            Future Technology Group
                            NERSC Division
                      Run some of their benchmarks on our Alpha systems and this
    is what they said.

                            The NPB-serial benchmarks reflect the floating-point
    intensive programs that are typical in the science and engineering research
    community of NERSC(*) users. The Compaq DS20 running Tru64 Unix and Compaq
    compilers has the best performance on NPB-serial of any system we've
    measured. The Future Technology Group at NERSC recently chose Compaq Alpha
    systems for the nodes of a workstation cluster for parallel computing
    research."

    This is not meant to toot my horn but what I am getting at is that Linux
    running on our hardware did quite well also. See the details at
