I used Larry's suggestion to just blow away the old partiitons with dd
if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdx bs=1024k count=4 and it worked like a charm.
I did have to re-init the system so yast could see that the disks were blank
though.
On another note when do we think that "swriteboot" will work properly on
SuSE Linux?
I made the incorrect assumption that it worked and ended up having to
reinstall again doing it manually.

I had diffuculties as well with fdisk of SuSE 6.3 AXP (SRM on an AS255) -
Yast
was not able to "see" the BSD-Partitions I created. To solve this problem I
created the partitions with SuSE 6.2 AXP and installed 6.3. The swap was not
recocnised - I created it manuallay after successful instalation with mkswap
or
something like that.
