    Subject: SuSe 6.3 on Alphastation 250 4/266

    Hi

I'm trying to install SuSE 6.3 on an Alphastation 250 4/266 (avanti). The
install goes fine,i can install all of the packages, configure the network
through yast etc, but when it tries to boot the initially installed system
it just hangs. I get a completely blank screen and the machine is totally
    dead.

I created a dos partition for /boot and when i try and boot the kernel from
MILO (using the ARC firmware) with

    boot sda1:/vmlinuz root=/dev/sda4

    i get

    "invalied compressed format"

I have the TGA framebuffer so i have installed the kernel with support for
that, however i have read somewhere that this kernel does not have support
for NCR SCSI controllers which my machine has.

Is this correct and can i get a kernel with these controllers somwhere.

    Thanks for the help

    Alan.
