    There is no such option AFAIK, but you might like to try
    ncr53c8xx="safe:y".

    Good reading is: <kernel root>/drivers/scsi/README.ncr53c8xx or
    ncr53x8xx.c.

    Just beware that the README-file documents both ncr and sym 53c8xx, but
    that's quite well explained.
