Yet another unsucessful try to upgrade my 6.1 AS200 to 6.3 failed.

This time I booted 6.1 (aiming to try to upgrade as many packages as I could
from the running system, then recompile the new kernel sources, etc etc).

I logged in as root, started yast (1.01.4 - upgraded that some time ago).
Went to "Change configuration" which then wrote the expected headers (Base
system: 6.1, CD: 6.3) but then failed with this line:

Error: Unknown Error!, Detail:0 File: PkgRetriever.cc Line: 495

I then restarted yast, went to "Load configuration", selected the default
KDE system, and proceeded to installation. (I ignored the dependencies.)
yast installed "cracklib", said something about removing "libauth", started
installing "pam" which then failed with the following:

#########unpacking or archive failed: cpio: Bad magic

promptly followed by a CPU halt which left me at the SRM prompt.

    Any suggestions, please?

(The system still boots, but it greets me with "SuSE 6.3, Kernel 2.2.9". I
would gladly do a complete reinstallation, but as I've posted before I am
unable to boot from either floppies or CD.)

    /Lennart
