I've had a look at all the specs that people have sent in and I can't seem
to find any correlation. Only Lennart has sent in specs for his
congifuration that works. Maybe we need some more specs of the working
one's so we can compare. Check out Daniels boot.msg file at the end.
---------------
Lennart's spec (Does work!!!!)
BIOS 1.41 (this is the video BIOS)
ARC 4.57, BIOS Emulation 2.05
SRM 6.9-4, BIOS Emulation 1.15a
AlphaStation 200 4/166
SuSE 6.3 own kernel from SuSE 6.3 sources.
Boots from ARC, can boot from SRM, too.
Diamond Fire GL 1000 Pro adapter
The X-server is XF86_3Dlabs
-----------------
Daniels spec (Doesn't work)
AlphaStation 400 4/233
SuSE 6.3 Avanti kernel with SRM boot
Digital ZLXp Graphics Controller
XF86_TGA server
--------------------
Justin's spec (doesn't work but this spec worked fine with RedHat 6)
AlphaStation 200 4/100
SuSE 6.3 full_vm kernel
S3 Virge Graphics adapter
XFree SVGA XServer
Bios 2.05
Firmware ARC 4.57
---------------------
Joerg-Uwe's spec (doesn't work)
AlphaStation 200 4/100
SuSE 6.3 full_vm kernel
ATI MACH 64-CX Graphics adapter 2 MB
SVGA Server
SRM Console V 6.9-4
ARC Console V 4.57
BIOS ??
---------------------
Daniel also sent me this. This looks like something solid. I'll also
pull out my boot.msg file and send it to the list.
Sorry about sitting on this for so long but it's just been hectically busy
here ...
Regards all
Justin

Hi Justin,
Yes, I've had the GTK app problem with the text on widgets. Here is
the beginning of my boot.msg file which tells an interesting story.
Loaded 6433 symbols from /boot/System.map.
Symbols match kernel version 2.2.13.
Error seeking in /dev/kmem
Symbol #loop, value 0002c000
Error adding kernel module table entry.
klogd 1.3-3, log source = ksyslog started.

As you can see, I built my own kernel, still have a /dev/kmem access
problem from the System.map file, and looky there, a bios warning aimed at
my graphics card in slot 11. Now, I wouldn't call this a problem with the
PCI Bios, but I'll bet this means the Xserver and possibly some of the
libraries as well, need to be recompiled properly.
The firmware was the latest from the Compaq web site, something like
v7.5 with both SRM and ARC console updates.
I will be checking around today if there is some more up-to-date bios
to be had.
Thanks, Dan
