The AS 1000 4/233 is a mikasa-type machine. Noritakes are called
AS 1000A X/YYY. In both machine types the X denotes the generation of the
cpu, 4 meaninng EV4 (21064) and 5 meaning EV5 (21164). The YYY denotes the
clock speed of the cpu. IIRC EV5 machines faster than 300 MHz actually
sport an 21164a cpu (which might be an EV56).

I can not really help you here, as I own an AS 1000 5/300. But I
can asure you, that this machine works with jumpstart 1.1/1.4 and with the
SuSE 7.1 beta (well sort of, all the KDE stuff goes boink). SuSE states at
their web site, that cpus from 21164 upward are supported (which would
mean your EV4 might not). This requirement might refer to support
however (and honestly I would be really surprised if they had compiled
everything in a way that only 21164 upward would work with).
I am walking on thin ice here but I seem to remember that EV5 does
not sport additional instructions compared to EV4. You might run into the
old precise trapping issue though.
I would suggest you to try the 7.1 beta (This might be enough to
get a file server going anyhow.) And if the machine is not supported by
SuSE there are other distributions out there...
Ahoi
