Dear AXP-Linuxers,
could you please help me with the following question
(I use SuSE 6.1 AXP, kernel 2.2.9):
I know that SuSE tools transfer some administrative info
from "/etc/rc.config" to the various component setup files,
in order to support some central administration via "yast".
(I have _not_ disabled SuSEconfig.)
This includes some general info on the desktop / window manager,
using KDE etc.
However, I need to use KDE tools directly to manipulate
KDE-specific settings, appearance etc. (as they are not reachable
via yast's configuration list).
Now whenever I change the number of KDE workspaces from 2 (seems
to be the default) to 4, this takes effect immediately and
still works after reboots.
However, this setting seems to get lost as soon as I used
yast's administration component, and KDE falls back to 2 workspaces.
(Surprisingly, other KDE layout settings do not get restored ...)
Is this "just the way it is", so that I should
a) stop using yast for any administration (might be a problem with
the soon-to-come upgrade to 6.4),
b) totally disable SuSEconfig, or
c) selectively disable SuSEconfig for Window manager issues
(any hints appreciated !),
or is this the indication of some configuration problem (or other
error) in my installation,
or do you know any other way to prevent such effects (like moving
some changed KDE setup file to become the new "standard") ?
Thank you for all hints,
and have a Happy New Year !
