Supposedly XFree86 4.02 does support TGA2 cards. Since I'm in the same
boat as you, I upgraded to 4.02, but have only been partially successful -
only half a screen is visible at some ridiculous magnification. I think
I can get this eventually with some tweaking of the XF86Config file,
but if someone beats me to it, I'd love to get their copy! It's been a
few years since I've messed with XF86Config...
