Below are two recent emails from the axp list.

They will soon (overnight mirror, IIRC):
gatekeeper.dec.com:/pub/DEC/Linux-Alpha/X11/diffs-tga.402.gz
Caveats:
1. like TGA, only one resolution can/will be used.
2. no dynamic changing of resolution (as usual).
3. all "active" (see below) resolutions are at 72Hz.
By "active" resolutions, I mean the ones that are not #ifdef'ed out of
the tga_crystal_table. This table has inactive entries for other
resolutions and refresh rates, as the current code does not attempt
to decide the best one to use from the monitor specs, as most of the
other servers do. (An exercise for the reader? :-)
So, for example, if you really wanted 1280x1024 at 76Hz (if an inactive
entry for that actually appears), one would deactivate the current one
for 1280x1024 and activate that one. Similarly, one could activate the
1600x1200 one, given, of course, a monitor that can handle it.
Please note that the only ones I've actually tested are the currently
"active" ones, so be careful out there...
BTW, there's a bit more acceleration for both TGA and TGA2 24-plane
cards in there, thanks primarily to the XFree86 folks; makes them a
bit easier to live with... ;-}
Good luck, and let me know how you make out...

There still is no X support for any of the E&S based cards (e.g. 4D30T) is
there? Just curious.
Thanks Jay.
