Message-ID: <3A66B516.7998B3F8@sql.de> Date: Thu, 18 Jan 2001 10:19:18 +0100 From: Joerg Bruehe <joerg@sql.de> Subject: Milo 2.2 on Avanti: Limitations
Dear AXP users,
now that I use SuSE 7.0 (kernel 2.2.16) on my "Avanti"
(AS 200 4/166 with TGA graphics card),
I want to inform you about two shortcomings of Milo 2.2 which I noted:
1) During the boot phase, it shows messages like kernel boot messages
but has erroneous representations for some characters
(from memory: "r", "k" with accents above; "g", "j" with lower part
cut; probably more).
(As SuSE does provide special kernels for the TGA graphics card,
"DEC 21030 TGA 8-plane" according to the boot messages,
this card might be the reason - there is no special TGA-Milo AFAIK.)
2) When using "shutdown -r", the machine goes down properly, but then
remains in that halted (?) state without showing the ARC-Bios
texts or any other activity.
I press the reset button to reboot then.
I fell back onto my older Milo 2.0.35, and both problems were gone.
It does boot (and reboot) the 2.2.16 kernel without any problems.
Where could I find information on the advantages of Milo 2.2 over 2.0,
so that I would know which stuff I am losing by my current setting ?
Regards,
Joerg Bruehe
