Subject: [suse-axp] Transmit timed out errors on eepro100 (DS20E)

We are consistently seeing network time out errors on our DS20:

    Jul 12 08:52:25 born kernel: eth0: Transmit timed out: status 0050 0c00 at 102307/102367 command 000c0000.
    Jul 12 09:00:05 born kernel: eth0: Transmit timed out: status 0050 0c00 at 116120/116180 command 000c0000.
    Jul 12 09:02:06 born kernel: eth0: Transmit timed out: status 0050 0c00 at 116253/116313 command 000c0000.

This happens with a stock SuSE 7.1 installation for both Kernels 2.2.19
and 2.4.4. The card starts up fine:

    Jul 11 09:48:39 born kernel: eepro100.c:v1.09j-t 9/29/99 Donald Becker http://cesdis.gsfc.nasa.gov/linux/drivers/eepro100.html
    Jul 11 09:48:39 born kernel: eepro100.c: $Revision: 1.20.2.10 $ 2000/05/31 Modified by Andrey V. Savochkin <saw@saw.sw.com.sg> and others
Jul 11 09:48:39 born kernel: eepro100.c: VA Linux custom, Dragan Stancevic <visitor@valinux.com> 2000/11/15
    Jul 11 09:48:39 born kernel: eth0: OEM i82557/i82558 10/100 Ethernet, 00:50:8B:AE:65:55, IRQ 39.
Jul 11 09:48:39 born kernel: Board assembly 726837-016, Physical connectors present: RJ45
Jul 11 09:48:39 born kernel: Primary interface chip i82555 PHY #1.
Jul 11 09:48:39 born kernel: General self-test: passed.
    Jul 11 09:48:39 born kernel: Serial sub-system self-test: passed.
Jul 11 09:48:39 born kernel: Internal registers self-test: passed.
Jul 11 09:48:39 born kernel: ROM checksum self-test: passed (0x04f4518b).

Receiving is fine, transmission is a nightmare. Any transfer > 500 KB
    immediately throws an error:

              RX packets:249784 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
              TX packets:158868 errors:3480 dropped:0 overruns:81 carrier:0
              collisions:0 txqueuelen:100
              Interrupt:39 Base address:0x2000

Has anyone else seen this before? I just can't believe we're the first to
    actually test SuSE 7.1/AXP on a DS20E :-(

    Many thanks,
    Markus
