    I ran into the same problem. Perhaps this helps someone to
    track things down:
    - Oracle 9i installed fine on a SuSE 7.2
    - on the same machine it did not install with SuSE 7.3
             (above mentioned errormessages)
    - after upgrading the SuSE 7.2 to 7.3 Oracle works still
    fine.
