    FYI,

I just tried today to install Oracle 8.1.7 under SuSE 8.1. I had
_no luck_. Installing of the most products worked fine but the problem
occured by creation of the database and by creating the database
objects. The creation of the catalogs was very slow and the
continuation meter did not come further then 78 percent (after hours)
and then I canceled the installation. Switched back to SuSE 8.0 and
there all works fine and fast. I assume the problem is related to
gcc-3.2 and newer binutils. Unfortunately I had no time to test this
with gcc-2.95.3 and prior binutils. Sorry if other people reported
this too. I don't read regularly this group.

    Harald
