Thanks

Seems like a catch 22, in order to start the database using dbstart I needed to create this init{$SID}.ora. I found another thread on symlinking a file in $ORACLE_BASE/admin but when I went to that directory the files needed were not there. Regardless, it SEEMS to be working now.

The software I installed is whatever I could download from www.oracle.com that was targetted for Linux, no patchsets. The DB server is 9.2.0.1, the Dev Suite is 9.0.2 (from http://otn.oracle.com/software/products/ids/htdocs/linuxsoft.html), and the app server is 9.0.2.1 Enterprise Edition (from http://otn.oracle.com/software/products/ias/htdocs/linuxsoft.html). The app serv is huge, I haven't installed this yet due to errors, I'm wondering if it includes the database server?
Thanks,
Josh
P.S. Love the domain.
