I am new at installing Oracle on SLES version 8. I currently have a SLES
install that has an Oracle 9iR2 database on it. I now need to install Oracle
9iAS ver 9.0.3 on this same box. This is a temporary installation which will
be used for a demo show. When the show is over, I will be removing and
reinstalling SLES 8 and Oracle.
I installed SLES and the database per the installation instructions on the
suse/oracle web site (www.suse.com/oracle). I now need to install the 9iAS
ver 9.0.3 on this same box, because I only needl the webserver, cache, and
OC4J component. I have downloaded and printed the instructions for
installing 9iAS ver 2 on SLES 8. Since I already have the database
installed, and the instructions are for installing 9iAS on a box with no
other Oracle products, I have some questions on the steps outlined in the
guide. I hope that someone has done something similiar and can help me.
1. The guide says to install UL Service Pack 1. I read it is up to 2a. If I
install the service pack before installing 9iAS, will anything in this
update affect the 9iR2 database installation? If I have at least ran the
orarun package, would I need to install the Service Pack at this point?
2. Install openmotif-2.1.30. In the changelog, it says you need this version
for Forms and Reports. Since I will not be installing these items, do I need
to downgrade to this version? If I do, will this affect the 9iR2
installation?
3. I already ran the orarun package. Since that is already done, do I need
to edit environment settings for this install? Do I need to make any changes
to the kernel parameter settings already set by the database install?
4. In a later step of this installation guide, it says that gcc 3.2 should
be removed, so that gcc 2.95.3 is used for running the root script. In the
database install guide on the SuSE website, it had me install both versions.
Do I need to remove the 3.2 version? If so, will this affect the 9iR2
installation?
