To enable AIO, you must relink oracle.
shutdown all oracle process, cd $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/lib; make -f ins_rdbms.mk async_on; make -f ins_rdbms.mk ioracle

I need to enable async IO in my instances. Does SLES8 (8.1) have this enabled automatically, or do I need to do some kind of kernel configuration? If kernel mods are necessary, is there any danger to existing instances on the server?
