I should have also mentioned that I used :2 so it doesn't interfere with :1
session.

And, when connecting from the windows computer, use IP_ADDRESS:2 to connect
to SLES system if you started the server as :2.

Also, are you using the ip address of the SLES system, or the hostname.
Maybe the hostname isn't in the windows hosts file.

If all else fails, run:
vncserver :2
on the SLES system.
Then your best bet is to kill it right away using this:
vncserver -kill :2
Then go into the hidden .vnc directory in the home directory of the user you
started the vncserver with.
Then edit the file "xstartup" and change the last line containing "twm &" to
"kde &" or the name of whatever xwindow manager you're using. Unless you
want to use twm, but you're very limited with twm.
Then restart the server using:
vncserver :2
Then connect from your windows computer.

No, you should see that. Is there a firewall between u and the host? Can
you telnet to that port?

I get the following on ports 5801,5901
tcp 0 0.0.0:5801 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN
Top 0 0.0.0:5901 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN
Does this indicate a problem that I need to deal with?

If you do a netstat -an | grep LISTEN do you see VNC listening on the
port you expect?

Subject: [suse-oracle] Accessing a System from a Windows Client
I am trying to access my SLES-9 server console from a Windows XP Pro
workstation. I am trying to work with Oracle Support on an installation
issue, but their collaboration conferencing won't connect to a Linux
system. So my goal is to present the console via a VNC type interface
on my Windoze client so we can work through the TAR.
On my SLES box I have VNC installed, I have enabled remote
administration, I have restarted the server. There should be nothing
there that prevents access (a port access issue maybe???). On my XP
box, I have Real VNC installed - it works accessing other windows boxes.
I tried using VNC to access the SLES server using SERVER:5801 and
received a connection timeout error. I also tried a browser (Firefox
and Mozilla) using http://server:5901 and got the same error message.
Am I missing something in the configuration??? Has anyone else made
this work?
