I know this sounds very much like windows. But I've had trouble with SLES in
virtual machines too.
In the past I've had to go into Yast. Delete the network interface config
completely. Shutdown, restart. Let the OS detect the unconfigured interface
and then go back into YaST to reconfigure the interface.
I think one time I even deleted the interface config in YaST, shutdown.
Removed the virtual interface from the machine. Restarted. Shutdown again.
Added the virtual interface back in and then re-configured in YaST.
This is basically the same as running the modprob/rmmod commands to load and
unload the various modules and manually reconfigure the interfaces.
The current revision of SLES9 (sp3 2.6.5-7.244-default) seems to handle this
much better. I've moved 4 virtual machines recently without any networking
issues, prior to .244 I had to do the procedures above.
