I am not sure about Debian, but FreeBSD ftp network is much, much (many
levels) better vs RedHat or SuSe download network, much faster and more
reliable. And I am not even talking about FreeBSD port system (which is many
times better vs any commericial Linux distributions, except few proprietary
packages which can not be included into it).
So, it's always balance - if you are not for - profite, you have resources
which are not available for profit companies. Not a surprise, after it, to
see very slow patch downloads on Novell and see 100 installation sources for
FreeBSD over the world.
(And it's why I like RedHat idea of maintaining free Fedora side by side
with RHEL commercial server. They find a way to combine benefits of both
approaches. Who of us ever was able to send a path to YaST /I had a few
patches, but I do not see any channel for feedbacl into the system/. In
RedHat - just patch Fedora, and it will became future patch for RHEL-xxx).
