SuSe professional is already _commercial_ system. It is not bad, but it
means that there is not community feedback into it.
Problem is not about download, problem is about contribution.
See example.
Some time ago I find, that YaST -> restore do not work properly. I found 1
definite bugs (files with ' " ' in filenames broke restore parser) and 1
potential buggy place (system lost 'rpm database restore' flag, and had few
other problems).
If it was RedHat, all I must do was _try the same with Fedora, and if I
still have this probvlem, post patch to this project_. Fedora is community
project by style, so it accept patches and contributions. And, because it is
community projects, contribution to Fedora contribute to all Linux project
in general. (Of course, if YaST, for example, was separate project, then I
will use separate posting point). And, because it is community project,
patch path thru audit and other standard things for Linux.
Now, take SuSe professional. It is good system (I estimate it better vs
Fedora). Show me, how can I contribute into YaST -> restore project, for
example?
The same with iSCSI. I dsicovered a bug in SLES9 SP1/2 with 'resize iSCSI
lun and run rciscsi reload -> system crash in 10 seconds - 10 minutes, for
100 sure (of course, you never sure if such thing is a bug or not, I
understand).
Ok, I can try to debug and fix this problem - where can I contribute patch
if I was able to patch a problem? It is not 100% SOURCEFORGE driver, it is
something modified.
And I can not download SUSE prototype, which uses current SourceForge iscsi
things, test on it and patch it if necessary. Because such thing do not
exists.
(Of course, things are little better. But I was not able to patch YaST ->
restore, and was advcied by SuSe support _do not use it at all, use 3-d
party software for backups_. I like such advices -:)).
