It should work. But the standard way is to create a directory structure

sles/cd1
core/cd1
core/cd2
core/cd3
core/cd4
core/cd5

and then copy CD1 to sles/cd1, and CDs 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 to core/cd1, core/cd2
and so on. Then in YaST you set sles/cd1 and core/cd1 as installation sources
(you don't have to worry about the other CDs, YaST will find them
automatically)

The other method should work as well, but this I know for a fact will work
