Just FYI:
I ran some tests, and I am quite sure that the DVDs I am describing work
properly. I decided to do some sanity checks with the following systems:
(all installation sources/DVD images were generated with SUSE Linux 10.0)
1. Minimal SLES install w/ a DVD created from shipping CDs only
2. Minimal SLES install w/ a DVD created from shipping CDs+SP1 CDs
3. Minimal SLES install w/ a DVD created from shipping CDs+SP2 CDs
4. Minimal SLES install w/ SP2 and shipping CDs
Checking all systems /var/adm/YaST/ProdDB/ directory reveals two files for
machine 1 (SUSE-CORE, SUSE-SLES), and three for machines 2-4 (add the SP).
Thus the situation described above does NOT happen.
My second check was to run 'SPident -vv' and 'rpm -qa' and compare the output,
which is identical for machines 1&2 and machines 3&4. The only differences
between the two are:
- 3&4 have two packages 1&2 do not:
- gpg-pubkey-0dfb3188-41ed929b
- gpg-pubkey-15c17deb-3f9e80c9
- 1&2 have two packages 3&4 do not:
- ncompress-4.2.4-1.2
- sharutils-4.2c-710.12
I am not worried about these differences. They appear to only be a difference
in the way SP2 installs vs. shipping and SP1. In all cases it looks like all
updates are getting installed.
I am going to go ahead and publish my article.
