Hi Kirk,
The installation with the SLES9 SP2 DVD works fine for a couple of
hardware (Dell Precision workstations and HP customer servers). When
trying to set up a Dell Poweredge 2850 with SCSI disks, there appears a
problem:
Booting and installing a minimal setup from DVD works fine. But after
first boot it loads GRUB, loads the kernel from /boot and then fails
when mounting the root device /dev/sda3 and freezes. The message is:
Waiting for device /dev/sda3 to appear ...
No root device found exiting to /bin/sh
sh can't access ttz; job control turned off
Interestingly this also happens when booting from the DVD and give a
HTTP installation server as source.
When booting the server directly from the SLES9 SP2 CD1 and give a HTTP
installation server, then it works properly. Obviously there are bad
modules, kernel or ramdisk or an Yast installer bug.
I tried to burn the DVD with the boot directory from
SUSE-SLES-9-Service-Pack-Version-2/CD1/boot but then it asks for the
first CD to insert.
I think one has to merge the SUSE-SLES-9-Service-Pack-Version-2/CD1/boot
with that from SUSE-SLES-Version-9/CD1/boot
Any ideas how to solve this?
Regards,
Bernd
