I know that they selected GNOME for SLED. But it all results in killing KDE,
with
next result in killing SLED and SuSe (system became one of a few other
faceless Linuxes). All they need to do now is to
refuse one more thing - YAST; then they can close a company and go to
trucking business.
KDE always was strongest size of SuSe, making it really professional system.
YaST was another strongest side of SuSe.
Now we see refusal from KDE (it is not primary desktop anymore), and partial
refusal of YaST (it is stil primary packaging system, but they introduced
one more, incompatible system, with clean idea to make it primary).
So, it all going to the clean end. My congratulations. (Of course, I have
not a prioblem in making autoinstall without Gnome, I can use twm, gnome,
kdem, can set up keyboard manually, and
can use any packaging system. But I saw many people, who was impressed by
high quality of KDE vs Gnome desktop. And
I really could not find all necessary settings for russian letters, focus on
window and other gnome features, in 5 - 10 minutes,
which really indicates that it is, again, amateur system - looks as amateur,
feels as amateur, is designed as amateur. Yes, hackers
like it, and _real guru_ love it - problem is that it is not user-friendly
and is not consistant.

Nice try to start a flamewar! especially when we are discussing server
distros :-)
Novell is a business, they had to default to something and I think they
chose wisely with GNOME, especially when they are focusing SLED on using
GNOME. Also, I am a very advanced Linux user and I use GNOME - I am not
saying it is better, I am just saying it is better for me.
BTW- You can also install KDE on the server, so why all the complaining
over 2 mouse clicks (1 to select KDE and one to deselect GNOME) ?
Cheers,
