Subject: [suse-sles-e] SLES10 Upgrade Tips and figuring out the customer center

FYI, Just finished upgrading a Dell PowerEdge 2800 from SLES9 SP3 to
SLES10, everything went pretty smooth and the total upgrade only took
about 45 minutes, however here are some issues I had. (I was beta
testing it for the last 6 months so I knew what I was getting into)

- Video Card was not detected properly (install worked great until the
reboot, then defaulted to text mode), no big deal
- DNS Service didn't work right away, re-created a TSIG key everything
was fixed
- DHCP Server was pretty much toast, had to re-enter all the correct
settings. Ensure you right down HOST/MAC addresses before the upgrade in
case you have to re-enter everything.
- Mail Server - Had to reset the basic settings, the domains were still
read from LDAP however.
- Amavisd wouldn't start, had to set the FQDN in amavisd.conf

Another issue that turned out to be a non-issue was that I upgraded a
box that I setup Network Bonding, the installation wouldn't connect to
the Internet, but after first boot everything seemed to work.

If you are upgrading remember to update to SLES9 SP3 prior to the
upgrade to ensure the upgrade goes smooth - also run the SPident command
to see if everything is updated, you may have to run the command with
-vvv to see what packages are not current.

My main issue now is to deal with Novell Customer Center. Basic things
such as adding another organization are missing! Hope this gets cleared
up soon as I am going to start upgrading quite a few servers (10+) and
probably add a hundred (hopefully) or so Desktops to it.

Good Luck if anyone else is upgrading,
Mike Petersen
