Subject: Re: [suse-sles-e] SLES10 - so, we can expect the same lowquality again?

Ok, I do not complain about gnome/vs kde - it's old religious war (but it
was a big advantage of SuSe).

And I cannot sign to Beta program without fraud _I will work with it 8 hours
a day_. No, I work with it few hours/week.

Anyway, let's see how much complains will come when SLES10 will be released.
I predict _major upgrade in the first 2 weeks_, seen the currecnt testing
process. Esp. when it will be installed on older servers. Of course, it will
work on fresh new and empty DELL 2850.
But I can 100% garantee that it will not work as _upgrade_ on 30 - 50% of
SLES9 installations in the world.

I write it only because I saw few (many, in reality) people who
- downloaded SLES9 release
- find in unreliable (and it was)
- blame it to the whole SuSe family and never returned to this camp (most
come to Redhat camp). And why? Just because company skipped a very importent
step in OS release process - wide testing?

Ok, there was a rush with SLES9 (it was the first
commercial Linux with 2.6 kernel); but what's the rush with SLES10 - XEN?
(it is not ready for enterprise servers you know); kernel (not too much new
things, through - it's well known modern kernel); show me the features which
makes it so important to run ahead of the sound?

So, ok, let's see what happen with the market, if you are not interested to
see what happen with the system.

And again, many people (much more then direct beta testers) have access to
Beta's - why don't have a reliable feedback from them?
As I said earlier, there are a clear bugs, obvious from the very first
attempt (may be, some caused by unusual configuration - I think so) -
what's the use in pretending that this bugs do no exists?

I explained. You can sign if you promise to work with it all the time. But
most people who can test beta
can just _install and try, then make report, what's wrong_. Reasonale requir
ements are
- promise to test it;
- promise to fill in detailed report;
- nondisclosure agreement.

It's interesting, but we can see Ubuntu eating sugnificant piece of market.
Just as Debian and as (not Linux) FreeBSD
(which is much more convenient from management point of view, btw). If you
did not noticed it, ok - let's see in time.

Not everything. Just reliability of the first releases.
