I had the same problem with a different kind of IBM hardware. I had two x366
connected to a DS4300, each with two HBA's connected to two FC switches.
With multipath-tools I would see a total of four disks per LUN (each one
being seen through each HBA and each controller). With AVT enabled on the DS
I had serious performance problems (the LUN kept boucing from one controller
to the other), without AVT half the paths were marked as "failed".
After trying to fix it for a day I installed the IBM-recommended RDAC drivers
and everything worked perfectly (just one scsi device per disk, failover
working transparently).
Can't you do the same?
