SAP's restrictions have been relaxed a bit; quoting
http://www50.sap.com/linux/platforms/index.asp :
"Please be advised to use one of the most recent 2.6 or 2.4 kernels for your
hardware platform and distribution. We recommend using one of those
additionally tested Linux kernels but using newer Linux kernels, based on
already tested versions, is not strictly forbidden. In case of problems
with the operating system please try to reproduce it on a tested kernel and
contact the support organisation of your Linux distributor if the problem
persists."

Backports are used a lot for SLES packages; see
        http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Backports
Glibc is not an exception to that. It looks like the newer version number
got backported by mistake.
