Strange; I installed it all many many times and never had any problems. With
SLES9-SP1, SLES9-SP3, SLES9 , in 32 and 64 bit modes.

Looks as you used wrong installation sequence. Did you try to install SLES9
firtst and the upgrade to SP1 and then to SP3?

PS. Novell support... forget about it, it is useless.
