to check if your Novell Account has insufficent rights use your Web-Browser (firefox) and use the URL

https://you.novell.com/update/i386/update/SUSE-CORE/9/patches/

you will be promted for your Novell_Account and passwort

if this will work, check on your sles-box proxy settings and https:// proxy settings

 yast proxy

if with browser this will not work (error 403) contact anybody on the novell-Portal that your
account will have insufficent rights to download patches.
