Andrew,
When I've seen something like this in the past it's been a PuTTY
setting. Under Connection/SSH What's your Preferred SSH protocol
version set to? It's a radio button near the middle of the page. I had
to set mine to 2 or 2 only.
Have you tried ssh'ing to the server from another SUSE box to see if the
login is slow that way as well?
