I have an HP DL385 running SLES9 x86_64 SP3. Attached to the box (Via an
Adaptec 39160) is an external disc array. It is presenting two logical
drives to the SLES box. One, is a RAID0, 900GB array, the other is a
450GB RAID5 array.
These two arrays are then put into their own LVM groups, and each group
has just one volume created using the maximum space on the group. Both
of these volumes are then formated using ReiserFS. This was all done
using YaST2. (i.e. one RAID array has one LVM storage group which has
one volume which is formated as ReiserFS)
On boot, the 900GB array takes about 65 seconds to mount, and the 450GB
array takes about 30 seconds.
The relevant entries from /etc/fstab are
/dev/Data0/Data0 /discs/data0 reiserfs acl,user_xattr
1 2
/dev/Data5/Data5 /discs/data5 reiserfs acl,user_xattr
1 2
Currently, there is nothing actually stored on these file systems, they
are just empty.
Call me impatient or picky, but I would have thought that a journaled
file system should mount quicker than this. Certainly other journaled
file systems that I use mount file systems of this size (and larger) in
a fraction of the time.
Is this normal for ReiserFS, or is there a way to speed things up ?
Thanks,
GTG
