The problem is absolutely NOT this!!

The problem is the hardware manufacturers squatting on their precious two
penny closed source drivers.
The most irritating thing is that many of these closed source drivers are
protecting shit "secrets". Just what is the magical knowledge about a damn
touch screen that cannot be made open-source? It's a damn screen and mouse
with a few more features.
You look at the problem through Windows-eyes and give an Windows answer. It
can be better than that, it really can. This good: you just install Linux
and it sees and configures all hardware. It just works, no need to hunt for
drivers, no need to compile them, no need to install anything just to have a
piece of hardware working.

Look at the "the kernel needs a stable API so vendors will write drivers".
I've been in your shoes just a few weeks ago when I had to compile a driver
for MicroTouch screen.
