Folks:
Hate to chime in here with a issue that isn't directly about
SLES10/SLED10 but my frustration along with the fact that there is no
where else to go to requires I do so -
From what I can tell right now there is no easy way to either upgrade
a number of systems to SP1 or keep SP1 boxes patched via Zenworks once
they exist -
We seemed to be being told by Novell to use Zenworks well then how?
Zenworks for SLES10 SP1 / SLED10 SP1 is basically dead with zero news
coming out of Novell when or even if it will ever exist. Don't know
if anybody else has played with Zenworks 7.2 but it is a big mess. My
experiences say that its an alpha quality product that actually
shipped. Some issues:
- Has anybody actually gotten the Zenworks 7.2 server installed and
functioning on a SLES10 box by running the install script? They say
you can do it but I tried about a half a dozen time to no avail -
finally I gave up and put it on a SLES9 system.
- Has anybody actually installed the 7.2 clients on a SLES9 SP3 box
following the instructions without lots of hand hacking? How's about
on a SLED10 or SLES 10 box?
- Where is the upgrade path from SLES10/SLED10 to SP1 via Zenworks?
The Zenworks folks have to have know that this was/would be an issue -
why wasn't the release of Zenworks 7.2, which happened earlier this
year, built from the very beginning to deal with SLES/SLED 10 SP1?
Will Novell ever force Zenworks to prepare for future Suse release or
will they forever be out of sync?
This is just nuts!
Sorry for the vent but Suse is a wonderful product that is being shot
in the knees by the Zenworks mess.
Michael
