Everyone, On several SLES 9 servers that are LDAP clients (same anomaly across architecture/hardware platforms), we're find servers that hit their open file limits at least once a week and do not allow login even at the console. I've increased the open file limit from 1025 to 65536, to give some time to troubleshoot the issue. I've seen greater than 30,000 sockets being used by nscd, and I can't seem to locate the answer. This problem started around Dec. 2006, so it's a fairly new issue. Listed below is a snippet of info I've obtained when I use lsof against the nscd PID. Any help would be most appreciated!
