Hello all,

when SLES10 was released I promised that the invitation to the SP1 beta
program would go to this mailing list as well. Please read carefully the
announcement below, and if you are interested and see the possibility to
actively participate, please go to the survey mentioned below to apply
for the program.

If you have experience with SLES10, and have encountered problems, this
is your chance to influence how well those problems are fixed (or at
least to learn early whether an improvement is planned or if you need to
think about a workaround).

If you have any questions about the program, you are welcome to email
Alison or me off-list, as this list is not really about beta program
discussions...

Dear Novell Customer,

Novell is pleased to announce the availability of the Beta release SUSEŽ
Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) 10 SP1. This message contains news about
the SLES 10 SP1 Beta and your possible involvement.

In addition to bug fixes, the following improvements are planned for
SLES 10 SP1:

1) Xen Virtualization
- Live Migration
- 32 bit guests on 64 bit hosts FV
- Improved management tools including Novell Customer Center handling of
  images & VM subscriptions
- Broader support for different guest OSes including Windows and RedHat guests

2) Storage
- iSCSI boot support
- OCFS2 improvements including expansion and mmap support
- File System Audit

3) AppArmor
- Network access control
- Profile improvements
- Tomcat support

4) Management/Auditing
- Systemtap, kexec/kdump improvements
- More LAF (Linux Audit Framework) modules
- EAL 4+, CAPP preparation

5) Install/update/package management improvements
- Performance improvements
- Delta & patch RPMs

Novell would like to establish a close working relationship with a few
highly motivated customers in an authorized beta setting. In this
arrangement, you will be first to receive new versions of the software
as it becomes available, AND you will receive free technical support for
the duration of the beta cycle. In return Novell asks your site to
commit ca. 10 man-hours per week to testing the product and reporting
your feedback on its performance.

Please know that there are a set of standards that are required to
become a Novell Beta Tester such as:

Test the product for a minimum of 5 to 10 hours a week.
Install the product within 2 business days of receiving it.
Complete provided test cases within one (1) week after each beta release
is installed.
Report on defects found during beta testing within one (1) business day.
Regress defects found with product refresh code.
Participate in conference calls, as scheduled.
Answer survey questions, as needed.
Periodically report feedback to development on reliability, stability,
and readiness of product for the marketplace.
Provide feedback regarding product documentation and help systems.
Provide the required hardware to adequately test the product.
Participate in the Novell Beta Test Program under a formal
Non-Disclosure Agreement.
