The simplest way I found to solve this problem was to temporarily add opensuse sources to the install sources and to disable them afterwards so as not to affect updates.
From my personal doc's:
yast2 -> software -> installation source
click the add button, and select http from the drop-down list
in server field, enter mirrors.kernel.org/opensuse/distribution/SL-10.1/inst-source
click ok. (it takes several minutes for the server to register with your machine.)
click "yes, i Agree to the software license".repeat this process for the following server address: mirrors.kernel.org/opensuse/distribution/SL-10.1/non-oss-inst-source
click the "refresh on or off" button, then click finish.
return to yast2 -> software -> software management
(remove old sun java if necessary)
in search field, enter sun, and click search
check java-1_5_0-sun and java-1_5_0-sun-devel -> accept (let download/install) -> next -> yes
return to yast2 -> software -> installation source
highlight the 10.1 sources and click the disable button

Dear List,
I'm trying to install JDK (Sun Java SE JDK) because it is a prerequisite of Open Xchange. However, I am unable to install JDK 1.5 or higher. 1.4 is available in YaST, but it is insufficiënt for OX.
I've downloaded the binary and installed it, but java won't update- if I manually edit the symlink I can get java -version to print 1.6, but javac isn't working at all.
What is the best way to install the official sun libraries on my SLES 10 box?
