Subject: [suse-sles-e] SLES 10 on a Dell PowerEdge 1600SC

Hello everyone. I have a Dell PowerEdge 1600SC server that is currently
gathering dust. It's old, but it still works. Strangely, it's
outfitted with an LSI MegaRAID i4 IDE RAID card. At any rate, there's
been talk of redeploying this machine using Linux instead of Windows.
I'd like the distribution to be SLES 10. However, there's a problem.

Whenever I try to install an evaluation version of either SLES 9 or 10,
I receive the following error - "No hard disks were found for the
installation. Please check your hardware!". I've tried several
different things:

1) Manual installation of SLES 9 per
http:www.novell.com/coolsolutions/trench/16864.html. While this method
was successful, the same tactics did not work for SLES 10, which is the
version I'm more interested in.

2) SLES 10 Boot options: insmod=megaraid-old, insmod=megaraid,
ide=noprobe, ide=noraid.

3) A firmware update (version 6.62) for the LSI MegaRAID i4 IDE RAID
card from Dell's website

4) Red Hat Enterprise Linux 2.1 and Red Hat Linux 8 drivers, also from
Dell's website. There are no SUSE specific drivers offered.

5) I did manage to find the article below; however, it revolves around
SLES 8, not 10.

What's interesting is that Ubuntu sees everything correctly right out of
the gate. Might anyone know what I'm doing wrong? I need to make sure
the OS works properly on this machine before I can recommend it to my
supervisors.

Thank you all for your time.

John
