I had the same problems with my new DL585 G2's with 48GB of memory in
them. I just did the install using the text screens and then it used
the graphical desktop on the first boot.
I was booting off of the SP3 CD to start the install.

First of all, use SP3 disk instead of Release disk for the initial boot.
