Hi Reinhard,
we have the same problem and decided to wait until someone complains.
;-))
As far as I know you have to install the HP monitoring agents which
enable
you to monitor this hardware.
At least you need:
* hpsmh as a monitoring framework and web application for
monitoring.
* hpadu as the array monitoring utility.
Probably you can use the Command Line Array Tool 'hpacucli' to
activly poll ths status via batchscript without running the above
stuff.
Then you have to make some scripting around that. But probably it's
more
lightweight as the 'official" way.
Hi all: If I'm wrong with what I said, please correct me. I'm also
interested in a proper solution as we definitly think about
implementing
an active monitoring. :-)
Best regards

Hello,
we use some HP/Compaq Smart Array RAID Controller und SLES9 (all fixes
SP3)
all works fine.
But no one disk fail, an we only see the hardware failure on the LEDs
on the
front of the 19" rack.
no error/warning in
/var/log/warn
/var/log/messages
the only info I can get about the controller from sles is
srv000056:/proc/driver/cpqarray # more ida0
ida0: Compaq Smart Array 3200 Controller
Board ID: 0x40320e11
Firmware Revision: 4.50
Controller Sig: 0xa1bf02e0
Memory Address: 0xf891ef00
I/O Port: 0x3000
IRQ: 9
Logical drives: 2
Physical drives: 10
Current Q depth: 0
Max Q depth since init: 65
Logical Drive Info:

ida/c0d1: blksz=512 nr_blks=106683840
nr_allocs = 370834
nr_frees = 370834
in /var/log/boot.msg we see this message
<4>Compaq SMART2 Driver (v 2.6.0)
<7>cpqarray: Device 0xae10 has been found at bus 1 dev 0 func 0
<6>cpqarray: Finding drives on ida0 (Smart Array 3200)

has anybody info how I can from SLES get status of the disc ?
because we administer some machine only remote.
regards
Reinhard
