Hi Norbert,

you reached a system resource limit. In this case it seems
to be the count of open files.

1) Check out that you have a line like
----------------------8<--------------------------------------
session required pam_limits.so
----------------------8<--------------------------------------

in the files /etc/pam.d/{login,sshd,su} as required.

2) Check the file /etc/security/limits.conf
for the relevant limits.

3) If you don't struggled over these files before I advice to
read the manuals. ;-)
These files are security relevant. So, probably intersting.

4) You should check who is catching all the ressources. Are sessions
not shutdown cleanly?

Best regards
Andreas Mock

Hello,

i have installed an SLES9 SP3 on an HP ProLiant DL380.
The system works along of time very good.

Now i had the problem, that no connection to the system comming up.

The client of the application can't connect. No connect over ssh or
telnet is working.
The only answer was an ping.

We made an hard reset and the system startet normal up an all users
can
connect to it.

I have checked the messagesfile and i have seen the following message:

May 29 08:40:54 altmn1 kernel: open files rlimit 1024 reached for uid
0
pid 6459

I have no idea what this mean and where i can change this rlimit.

Have anyone an idea????

Best regards

Norbert
