Subject: Please help w/install of SuSE 7.0

I have a Sun SparcStation 20 that was running RedHat 6.2, but wish to upgrade. I attempted to install Mandrake Corporate server, but it failed (failed to boot.) So I am now attempting to install SuSE 7.0 from cdroms I burned from iso images downloaded from ftp.suse.com.

The SS20 has two internal 1 GB drives and an external 1 GB drive. I also have an old scsi cdrom drive meant for a PC (i.e. it does not have a "thin" form factor and thus the lid of the pizza box does not fit.) The EPROM (BIOS) does seem to recognize it however, but is unable to boot the first SuSE disk. I created a boot floppy from the floppy32 file contained on the 1st cdrom. When I attempt to boot the floppy, I get the error message:

Bad magic number in disk label
Can't open Sun disk label package
(booting the cdrom gave me some error about not finding something to boot)

Because the Mandrake installation failed, I re-installed RedHat 6.2. The re-installation does not seem "clean"- on startup I get warnings about the system.map file not matching the kernel. Also, when I attempt to mount a cdrom, I'm told that filetype iso9660 is not recognized. When I attempt to mount the boot floppy, I'm told that filetype romfs is not recognized.

I don't know what to do now except appeal to the kind participants of this mail list. Thank you.
