How would I go about firing up yast1 for installation?
Since I don't have a CD burner, I needed to find a vendor that would sell me
CDs. Linux System Labs had them in stock and shipped promptly. The top
level directory of the first disk indicates that the disks are supposed to
include an english reference manual. Unfortunately, I've only been able to
locate the german version. I managed to find the english version on the net
though.

I'm assuming you attempted to use yast2 for installation... instead try
to use yast1 for a serial console installation.

How do you like their CDs? Anything worth noting about them?
