Yes... for this one, there's a bug in the makefile. You can either fix
the Makefile (which I can make a simple patch for)... or run "sparc32
make menuconfig"... when it loads up, exit it, and then run "make
menuconfig" (without the "sparc32".

I'm assuming the problem with the kernel you built is that you didn't
build in the proper fb support. There should be the configuration file
as /boot/vmlinuz.config... also, you mentioned it being "twice the
size"... that's because you're building an uncompressed kernel... SuSE
ships it's kernel compressed.
