    this is a bit out of context for the list, but here are some minimal tips
    anyway.

    If you don't have *real* IP's for your machine (just playing around at home,
    etc...?) - you probably want to assign IP's as 192.168.0.x with netmask
    255.255.255.0

    for example... 192.168.0.1 on one machine, 192.168.0.2 on another, etc...

    If you *only* want to connect these two machines - you *could* use a
    cross-over cable to connect the machines - otherwise a hub is fairly cheap.

    For the Linux box to show up in the Windows network neighborhood - check out
    samba.org - plent of documentation and hints there.
