    Currently the userspace on sparc and sparc64 are both 32-bit, and the
    kernel on sparc64 is 64-bit. All distributions that support sparc64
    should be shipped with the "egcs64" (or similar) compiler special for
    the purpose of building it's kernel and nothing more. All userspace
    applications are built for both with the normal 32-bit compiler.

    Run an "rpm -q egcs64", and the output should be "egcs64-19980921-17",
    which is the package you're looking for.

    And if you remove the qfe's, what happens? A machine I have with an hme
    interface has no such problem, so I'd like to see what might be causing
    yours.
