    I got exactly as far as you on an Ultra 10 with 256MB of RAM... I also
    decided to try on an x86 machine... it failed, but differently.
    Basically, it seems that their Makefiles are badly broken... if you look
    at the output, and that if gives a "I../xmltok:: Too many arguments.",
    you'll see that it's missing at least a "gcc -" in the front, and the
    output file is there without a -o in front of it.

    Anyways... if you wanna contact the OpenOffice folks, you have my
    blessings. :)
